I often think about this very question. Being employed by an SBC church and enrolled at an SBC seminary, I get my fair share denominational-political talk.

I personally think most of it is from the devil. Maybe that is a bit strong; so let me say it this way. I am pretty sure the Holy Spirit is not a part of it.

The most recent hullabaloo with the IMB (tongues and baptism) is clearly at least somewhat unbiblical. That is a clear enough indication to me.

Regarding uncooperation with other denoms or agencies: Paul says that the peace of Christ and the word of Christ should dwell in us in order for us to be unified - for that is what we were called to, unity (Col. 3).

I could go on, but I'm not. It is all quite nauseating in my opinion.

All that to say, it is not of the Spirit and I think probably the devil knows about it and is pretty happy that it takes so much of our attention. It may have even been orchestrated by him in some degree.
