Missions Blog

Thoughts on Missions for college students and anyone else.

Here and Here for information on what I am talking about. Please read them.

In an effort to get an on the field decision overturned, several SBC missionaries appealed to the BoT about church planting problems. After hearing their appeal, rather than helping them, the Board began working on their removal hearings. Their crime? Daring to partner with some great commission christian missionaries, some of whom are from the Christian Missionary Alliance, to reach a previously unreached people group. The CMA is the denominational home of such radical heretics as Ravi Zacharias, Jim Cymbala and A.W. Tozer. I guess when faced with cooperating with another missions agency or allowing people to perish and go to hell, the latter seems to be more acceptable.

[satire]When asked to comment one trustee replied “with all the controversy going on right now, the last thing I’m worried about is missions.” When reminded that he was on the BoT for the IMB he responded “the IMB is a missions agency? What’s that?”[/satire]

It would be funny if it weren’t true I’m afraid.

I Googled the one BoT guy SBCOutpost mentions, John Floyd. His resume shows a good bit of int’l experience. How could you interact with missionaries, observe their cooperative ministries, and then support ridiculous elitist policies. I spoke with my old friend Daniel today who is thinking of applying with the IMB. He basically asked why am I applying w/ the IMB and not another organization. Regarding the receent IMB contraversy I replied that so far this crapulence has not reached overseas. However, it seems that the regional leadership of Africa has been influenced. The region where Laura and Iare trying to go is led by a guy I know and he is far from a landmarker.

I am still hoping and praying that the pendulum will swing back toward the center before any widespread damage is done–in the US or abroad. Pray, my friends.

I wonder if there is not someone who is in charge somewhere in the IMB that has to look at the most basic goal of any sending org (aka the Great Commision) and think “man, I think we are missing it.”

It is important in this whole thing though not to confuse the work of many great IMB missionaries and the sad workings of some of the Trustees.

You like comments, so here is mine:
I’m honestly kinda confused by the whole thing. I mean i know a few of the imb trustees are trying to pass ridiculous rules and are hurting missionaries in the process, but
I feel lost when I read this blog and the one tied to the 2nd “Here” link.
My understanding really isnt all that important, but if you want the body to be able to effectively pray against these spiritual attacks, clarity of the problem would be helpful. I know there is a ton of background info necessary to understand the whole issue, but if you could just try your best to maybe paraphrase the problem or something, then you could get more of the body into praying for this situation.

I love Jim Cymbala! His books and sermons are incredible. What a passion for God! I visited Brooklyn Tabernacle and was blown away by his humility and down-to-earthness.
I also love Keith Greens’s music, I am a huge fan. Are you familiar with him?

I am a musician and I would be honored if you would check out my music. All music on my site is free for downlad. Anyway, just thought that I’d share.

    Thanks,
    -Sean
